Drafty Doors and Windows

Energy savings are not just for winter!

Did your cooling bill jump dramatically? Air may be escaping through small openings in your windows and doors. Typical homes lose about 11 percent of their air through doors and 10 percent through windows.

Unfortunately, a door’s weather seals, if it has any at all, can rip, compress, bend, or wear out over time, allowing expensive air-conditioned air to leave the house.

Fortunately, attaching new weather seals is a straightforward exercise, far cheaper and faster than installing a new door or window.  Spring-metal or V-shaped vinyl weather-stripping works very well and is almost invisible.

Even small gaps in the parts of your windows can be a cause for discomfort and energy inefficiency. Replacing your weather stripping can be considered an investment because it will pay for itself in energy saving costs that are incurred not only in the winter but in the summer as well!
